of my heart
with that familiar mix
of hope and fear,
knowing it would no longer
be just mine.
Reading the words,
I tried hard to hide
the tremor
Listening to them read,
I hoped no one would hear
the hammering of my heart.
She spoke into the quiet,
"It sounds like a ballad."
"Yes," a gentle voice replied,
"like a hymn."
The reel rewinds;
I sit on piano bench
waiting with that familiar mixture
of hope and fear
while she plays the notes
of the words I have written.
"It sounds like a hymn."
"If a bird has one song,
it sings it." she had said.
Perhaps He has given me a song.

I know you have received so much from this time away! I know we'll be enjoying the fruits of your labors for a long time to come.
ReplyDeleteMy heart hammered with yours. What a beautiful song. What a beautiful you!
ReplyDeleteThis is just wonderful; I'm so glad you got to attend the workshop.
ReplyDeleteEverywhere I go I hear the release of songs that all of you found.
ReplyDeleteI loved the poetry workshop when I attended last year. It was the first time I had read one of my poems aloud to a group. Terrifying yet rewarding.
ReplyDeleteOh, Linda! This is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI remember the first poetry workshop I ever went to and how nerve racking it is to share a piece of you through prose. It was a special experience though and has encouraged me to pursue my love of words and begin submitting and dreaming. It sounds like it was a wonderful growing workshop for you.
